Srinagar: Two militants, reportedly affiliated with Jash-e-Mohammad, were killed and five army soldiers were injured in a gunfight in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday.
A senior police officer said the gunfight ensued after a joint team of army and police retaliated fire from hiding militants during a cordon-and-search-operation at Sutsoo Kalan area of Chattergam in the district.
He said two militant bodies have been recovered from encounter site along with one M4 and an INSAS rifles. Five army soldiers were injured in initial phase of the gunfight and have been evacuated to army hospital. “Searches are going on in the area,” he said. Regarding identity and the group affiliation of the slain duo, the officer said that it was being ascertained. “From the incriminating material recovered from their possession, they seem to be members of JeM. Details will be shared later,” he said.
Meanwhile high speed internet has been snapped in Srinagar, the summer capital of the state and Budgam.
