15-day summer break from June 23: Govt

Srinagar: The State Government on Thursday extended winter vacations in schools of Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division till March 2 and the schools shall reopen now March 5.

“As recommended by Director School Education of Kashmir and Jammu divisions, winter vacations in all government/private schools of Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division is hereby extended upon 02-03-2019 in view of the extreme inclement weather conditions,” reads an order issued by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Secretary to government education department. “All the schools shall now open on 05.03-2019,” the order says further.

However, the teaching faculty and other staff of government schools have been asked to report to duties on February 25. INS was the first to report that vacations would be extended and two reasons factored in it—inclement weather and possibility of protests by the students in wake of harassment and threats to the students from Kashmir in many parts of India.
