Kupwara: After despicable performance of various government schools in recently declared class tenth exams, department went on a suspension spree of teachers. The department, however has kept its eyes closed to being understaffed, which obviously hinders the performance as well, and as a well placed source said, ‘there are many ailments within that need immediate attention’.

The example in place in the district Kupwara, were 600 posts are lying vacant for the department and the ‘callous attitude of the department which does not tire from pomp show functions hardly bothers about it’.

“It may be due to several reasons, who bothers what happens in rural areas or the deptt is not serious about the duty it should be doing. It has become a routine now that until things don’t go public and they face wrath of people, they don’t move an inch,” a source within Department claimed.

An official, wishing anonymity, said that despite repeatedly notifying by the HOD’s and other officials nothing has been done in this regard.

“It’s over a year now District Institute of Eductional Training is functioning without a principal, for which additional charge has been given to Chief Education Officer Kupwara and has only two HOD’s against five more vacant posts,” he confided.

DIET is a premier institute designated to impart and train new techniques, polish the capabilities of the teachers in the district.

“The district is reeling under massive crunch of 634  vacant posts which haven’t been filled to date. The number will increase in conning months as over a dozen teachers are going to retire soon,” he said.

The department has failed to fill the vacant posts of 15  principals and 23 Headmasters across the district affecting normal functioning of the intuitions for which additional charges have been given, either to Head teacher of nearby intuition or to a teacher of the same intuition.

“Teachers apart since the retirement of District Education Planning officer last year no one has been put in that chair since,” sources said.

Besides this, an official told INS, that Higher secondary’s across district Kupwara are short of 225 Lecturers, and 365 Masters.

“The district is short of 5 ZEO’s,” he said.

“Yes the normal functioning of educational intuitions is effected due to massive staff crunch for years now. Students are suffering in absence of the required staff strength”, Chief Education Officer Shafiq Nabi War said.

War also feigned ‘no response from higher authorities’ even after ‘repeated informations’.
