Shopian : Thousands of people thronged Sugan village despite sealing of all entry points leading to it to participate in funeral prayers of Al-Badr militant Commander Zeenat-ul- Islam who along with associate was killed in Katpora village of Kulgam last evening.
Reports said government forces had sealed off all the entry points in the morning, allowing only women towards the village. The men, mainly youth, opted open fields and reached the village in thousands.
To accommodate people, there were multiple rounds of funerals before he was laid to rest.
Similar reports were received from Chillipora village where thousands of people participated in last rites for Islam’s associate Shakeel Ahmad Dar.
Reports said that youth pelted stones on government forces near army camp who retaliated with tear smoke shells to disperse them. Clashes were going while funerals were offered for Shakeel.
A complete shutdown was also observed in Shopian and Pulwama parts to mourn the Al Badr militant’s killing while Internet services were suspended in Shopian.
