Srinagar: Four militants have been killed in a fierce gunfight with government forces in Batagund area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, army said on Sunday.

While Army claimed to have killed four militants, police sources said that death toll might mount to six and believe five to be dead. “The gunfight is going on,” a police officer said.

The operation is being jointly conducted by team of army’s 34RR, CRPF and SOG Shopian, the officials said .

The identity of the slain militants was not officially revealed but sources said that the dead include a top commander each of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and Lashker-e-Toiba.
