Panchayat Ghar torched in Ganderbal, ‘2 suspected persons rounded up’

Srinagar: In a first incident of its kind in Ganderbal, unknown persons set ablaze a newly constructed Panchayat Ghar building at Wahidpora area of the Central Kashmir district on Saturday night.

Reports said that the fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were brought under control.

SSP Ganderbal said that around 8 p.m., Police and  Army Patrol in Wahidpora area got to know about the fire incident.

“Immediately with the help fire tenders, the fire was brought under control. Timely intervention saved Panchayat ghar,” he said.

Two suspected persons, he said, have been rounded up and preliminary investigation revealed that  a dispute was going on regarding appointment of Chowkidars. “A regular case has been registered into the incident and investigation is going on,” the SSP added.
