Srinagar: Home Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday said that there has been decline in the stone pelting incidents and a fall in new people joing militant ranks in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
“As far as J&K security situation is concerned, major shift seen in last 4 months. There has been a decrease in number of stone pelting incidents. Also, I have got information that there has been a fall in number of militant recruitment in the state,” Singh said in summer capital Srinagar.
According to Singh there were no incidents of ‘violence during urban local body polls in Jammu & Kashmir’.
“Today, discussions were held over the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state,” he said.
Singh said that both state and central governments are working towards development of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh areas.
“It is our aim to make Jammu & Kashmir a developed state,” he said.
Meanwhile ten people including seven civilians were killed in a gunfight in Kulgam area of Kashmir over which the Joint resistance leadership had called for a Lal chowk chalo today and authorities had sealed city center to bar people from assembling.
Also in a recent gunfight between militants and government forces a civilian, house owner was killed, in Sringar’s old city.
While police claimed he died by staying with the militants in the house, family has contested the claim saying he was detained prior to gunfight and was tortured and only next day they knew that he was dead.
