DSEK signs MoU with WWF India for the conservation of Nature and Biodiversity through students

Srinagar: School Education Department Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with World Wide Fund- India (WWF-India) for the conservation of nature and bio-diversity through students.

 The memorandum was signed between Director School Education Kashmir, Dr. G.N. Itoo and Dr. Pankaj Chandan, Team Leader Western Himalaya Landscape, WWF India in a function organized in Srinagar.

A detailed meeting between DSEK and Director Environmental Education WWF Dr. Radhika Suri was held at Dachigam National Park where in the terms and conditions of the MoU were discussed and finalized.

During this meeting many suggestions were put forward by Environmental Experts including Dr. Rouf Hamzah, Manzoor Javaid, Dr. Zahid Malik, Chetna Kaith, Assistant Director Planning Muhammad Ishaaq and other officers of School Education Department and WWF.

The event was organized by Coordination Cell, School Herbal Garden Scheme.

“It is the need of the hour to make students aware about the conservation of precious Natural resources,” DSEK  G.N. Itoo said

Referring about the School Herbal Garden Scheme DSEK said that Herbal gardens have been established in almost every Higher Secondary School of Kashmir Division and is helping in making students aware about the different medicinal and other unique plants.

Itoo termed this MoU as historic and said that this will help in making students and teachers aware about the precious resources of the Nature and this will also act as a milestone for the Herbal Gardens Scheme which was started in 2015 by the Department.

Director Environmental Education WWF, Dr. Radhika Suri said that WWF is active in preserving the Nature around the world and is operational in more than 100 countries. She said that a total of more than 50000 activists are associated with WWF around the world.

“WWF will always be ready in helping the students in the schools of Kashmir Division in understanding Nature and help in effective implementation of this MoU,” she said.
