Srinagar: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said that at least 500 candidates have submitted their forms for the upcoming Municipal polls across Jammu and Kashmir on BJP’s ticket.

BJP General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Koul told INS that 400 candidates from Jammu have submitted their form on BJP ticket in Jammu region while as in Kashmir at least 100 candidates have also filed their papers to contest in the polls on BJP ticket.

He said that the candidates from different districts of Kashmir including Southern, Northern and central have submitted their form to contest in the polls.

Earlier in a day, Chief Secretary V R Subrahmanyam in a press informed media persons that adequate security will be given to all those candidates who will contest the upcoming polls.

BJP leader said that new faces of the party are also among the 100 candidates from Kashmir who will be contesting in the polls.

Reports said that three candidates of BJP from Srinagar have also decided to submit forms for upcoming Municipal polls in Srinagar.

It added that these candidates would seek mandate from Hamdania Colony (Bemina), Humhama and Baghi Mehtab wards.

Notably, the regional parties of Jammu and Kashmir including National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and CPI (M), DPN, and PDF have announced to boycott the upcoming elections, citing ‘deteriorating situation’ in the state.

However, the state congress erstwhile decided to take part in the polls, saying they will contest in the elections to keep BJP at bay.
