PDP president Mehbooba Mufti who chaired a meeting of the top office bearers, MLAs and MLCs of the party today decided to boycott the Panchayat and Municipal elections, announced by the Governor led administration in the state, Sources privy to the development said.

Reliable sources in the party said that the situation linking panchayat polls to Article 35-A case in Supreme Court (SC) has created apprehensions in minds of people. “Party therefore urges the Govt to review its decision to hold polls at this juncture,” Mehbooba said.

Further, former Chief Minister said that “looking at this situation, we have decided to stay away from this process.”

The decision comes days after NC announced to boycott the Panchayat and Municipal polls and also threatened to boycott the assembly as well as parliamentary elections until Government of India clears its stand over the Article 35-A, 370.
