The inaugural match of the league witnessed a commanding performance by Kanwal Tigers, who defeated Royal Goodwill Cricket Club by 6 wickets. Batting first, Royal Goodwill Cricket Club posted a competitive total of 164 runs, setting a target of 165. In reply, Kanwal Tigers chased the target with confidence and composure.

The highlight of the match was a splendid all-round performance by Ankush Bandral, who played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 72 runs and also contributed with the ball by taking a crucial wicket. For his outstanding performance, Bandral was declared the Player of the Match.

The league was inaugurated by Satish Sharma, Minister, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, holding the portfolios of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs; Transport; Science & Technology; Information Technology; Youth Services & Sports; and ARI & Trainings Departments.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister lauded 92.7 BIG FM for organising a professionally managed cricket league and emphasised the importance of sports in tackling social challenges. “Cricket has the power to channelise the energy of our youth in a positive direction.

At a time when drug abuse is emerging as a serious concern, initiatives like this league motivate youngsters to choose sports over drugs. Playgrounds must become spaces of discipline, fitness, and hope,” he said, assuring full government support for youth-centric sports initiatives.

The match drew a large number of spectators and cricket enthusiasts, creating a vibrant atmosphere and marking a successful beginning for the league. Dr. Nigam Gupta, Managing Director, HexaMed Technologies, was also present on the occasion. Vikrant Sharma, Cluster Head – North, 92.7 BIG FM, and RJ Juhie expressed gratitude to the Minister, sponsors, officials, media persons, and supporters for their encouragement and continued support in making the inauguration and opening match a grand success.

The organisers expressed satisfaction over the enthusiastic response on the opening day. With several exciting fixtures lined up, the BIG Jammu Kashmir Premier League 2025–26 promises high-quality cricket, youth empowerment, and a strong social message through sport at the University of Jammu Ground.
