64 injured during clashes in native village of slain Hizb militant Umar

Kulgam: At least sixty four persons have been injured during clashes in Khudwani area following killing of a local militant Umar Wani in Anantnag on Wednesday .

According to Dr Mushtaq, who is treating the injured at the PHC Qaimoh, sixty four persons with multiple injuries were received at the medical facility till 2 pm. 

Another doctor, Dr Aijaz, at Qaimoh PHC said that among the injured persons, four have been referred to District hospital Anantnag. “They had pellet injuries on face and eyes,” he said.

Five persons were also injured during clashes in Anantnag and includes Mudassir Ahmad son of Mohammad Hayat of Qadir Shopian.

“He has bullet injury in right arm,” doctors at Anantnag District Hospital said.

Two militants including Umar Wani were killed on Wednesday morning during a gun battle with government forces in Muniwar area of Anantnag.

Umar was killed alongwith Altaf Kachroo, longest surviving and most important commander of Hizbul Mujahideen. Umar, according to police had recently escaped an encounter in Battamaloo area of Srinagar. One police man was killed in the Batamaloo encounter.
