Ab. Rashid from Manzgam Kulgam, a member of  Civil Society told INS that two months ago they visited the forest area as it was hit with fire and were suspicious that the fire was deliberately put on.

“We took pictures of fire hit trees and area to showcase the damages and did show them to District Forest Officer, so that they take the necessary action. But to no avail,”Abdul Rashid said.

“They didn’t take any action against culprits and we complained many times to forest department that tress are being fell unabatedly but they ignored,” he complained.

Rashid claims that huge damages have been done to Noorabad forests due to illegal deforestation and local timber mafia.

DFO Kulgam Mohd Ramzan however claimed that he has had the monitoring team set up who have submitted a detailed report on it.

“I made a committee, they will visit the area and file a detailed report on the issue in three days,” Ramzan told INS on Tuesday.
