FS seals GB Panth canteen over ‘unhygenic’ food

Srinagar: Official of Food Safety, Srinagar have sealed a canteen at G B Panth Hospital after bwing complained sub-standard and unhygienic food served to customers.

Anofficial statement issued here said that a team headed by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar inspected the canteen and found it in unhygienic condition.

“Flies in large number were found inside the canteen premises. The rooms where food is served to patients /attendants and employees of hospital are without requisite ventilation/ exhaust fans, thus creating unfavourable atmosphere for consumers and prepared food. The furniture was broken and food was not properly stored in deep freezers /refrigerators thus violating the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act,” it said.

According to officials the canteen was also being run without obtaining licence under Food Safety Act.

“Samples were lifted and In the interest of public health the canteen has been sealed,” the statement said.
