Baramullah : Despite heavy rainfall thousands of people including top politicians, bureaucrats, official of police and civil administration came from every corner of kashmir  attended the funeral procession of Cheif editor Rising kashmir Syed Shujaat Bukhari at his nattive place at Kreeri baramullah.


Syed Shujaat Bukhari was a srinagar based scribe and editor_in_cheif of Rising kashmir , a srinagar based local daily newspaper . He was earlier The Bureau cheif Of THE HINDU .

Bukhari had done Master’s in Journalism from Ateneo De Manila university . Shujaat Bukhari was a recipient of world press Institute ( WPI) USA fellowship and Asian centre For Journalism singapore Fellowship .He Was also the presidant of Adbee Markaz Kamraz , the biggest and oldest cultural and literary organisation of valley.

On July 8, 1996 government backed miltant group IKhwan abducted 19 local journalists in Anantnag district and held then as hostage for at least seven hours .Bukhari was among host abducted and later he managed to escape by some means, Bukhari then later told reporters without borders that the instigators and prepetrators of this kind of attack are rarely caught in kashmir.” It is virtually impossible to know who are our enemies , and who are our friends”, He had said.

Syed Shujaat Bukhari was shot dead along with other two PsO ‘s when he was leaving his office in Srinagar’s press colony by unidentified gunmen on thursday last evening.
