No option but to go to SC if statehood is delayed: Dr Farooq

Srinagar June 14: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday welcomed the UN report of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir and said that the demand for a Commission of Inquiry into these violations is not only the need of the hour but  long overdue as UN and the world body owes it to the subjugated people of Kashmir.’
“UN has a moral obligation to the people of J&K as the promises made to us by it have so far not been fulfilled,” Umar said in a statement, while adding that although it has come late,  but it  recognized the grave human rights violations by the state ‘especially during the last thirty years taking place in Kashmir.’
UN Thursday made public its first ever report of HR violations in the state of Jammu and kashmir while is chief demanded that they will be urging a commission of inquiry into the violations in the state.
It also castigated India of using excessive force, arbitrary laws, of torture, killing, maiming and blinding and urged Indian troops in kashmir to exercise maximum restriant.
The report urged India to respect ‘right to self determination’ of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mirwaiz appreciated the efforts of the present UN High Commissioner for human rights Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussain in preparing the ‘detailed and exhaustive report’.
He said that he thanks  the UN body especially the High Commissioner ‘for his earnest attempt in bringing the situation of human rights violations in Kashmir by the state in the global public domain besides asking for immediate end to the grave human right violations taking place here and for a meaningful resolution of the Kashmir dispute which is inclusive of the people of Kashmir.’
Ministry of External Affairs of India described the report as prejudiced and rejected it.
“It is highly unfortunate that GOI instead of taking the report of the world body seriously and making amends in its repressive policy in Kashmir has chosen to attack the report,” Mirwaiz said.
