Srinagar: Denouncing continuous detention of political leaders and activists, Hurriyat Conference Wednesday expressed deep concern over the unlawful detention of Mohammad Yusuf Parey and said that authorities while defying court rulings, slapped third PSA against ailing leader.
Hurriyat Condemning the continuous detention of its leaders Mohammad Rustum Bhat, Mohammad Yusuf Falahi, Tariq Ahmad Ganai, Sheikh Mohd Yusuf & Ab Subhan Wani, said that the ailing lederes are denied proper medical treatment. Reacting to the arrest spree launched since last one year, Hurriyat said that more than five hundred political leaders, activists and students are detained in different jails and police lockups.
Lashing out at PDP led coalition, Hurriyat said that it is very sad that even students are being arrested and lodged in detention centers.
Hurriyat urged International Red Cross and Amnesty international to take note of pathetic condition of political detainees and impress upon India to shun its callous attitude towards detainees and use influence for immediate release of all detainees.
Hurriyat said that its activist Mohammad Amin Parey, soon after undergoing surgery in hospital was arrested by police and since then, he is in unlawful detention and during this period police authorities instead of releasing him, slapped three PSA in a row and thus creating hurdles in his release.
Hurriyat said that though he was bailed out by court, however police slapped third PSA on Mohd Amin Parey and shifted him to unknown destination. Quoting his family, Hurriyat said that police authorities are not divulging the reports about his present lodgment.
Hurriyat in its statement said that 70-year old Mohd Rustum Bhat and Tariq Ahmad Ganai (Shopian) are suffering from multiple ailments and no proper treatment is provided to both.
In view of his deteriorating health condition doctors advised for immediate surgery to Mohd Rustum Bhat, however neither authorities release him, nor proper treatment is provided, said Hurriyat.
Tariq Ahmad is languishing in jail since last nine months and despite his worsening condition, no medical facility is provided to him, Hurriyat said.
District president Shopian, Mohammad Yusuf Falahi is also ailing and no proper medical treatment is provided to him, statement said.
Terming the approach against detainees as vengeance and while decrying about the ill treatment meted out to detainees, Hurriyat said that prisoners are provided with sub-standard food and in absence of proper medical care, their condition is deteriorating with each passing day.
In an appeal to ICRC, Amnesty International and international organization for human rights, Hurriyat impressed to take their cognizance and use influence for immediate release of all detainees.(GNS)
