Massive traffic jams witnessed as highway re-opens after 4 days closure

Jammu: The Srinagar-Jammu highway, which re-opened for one way traffic on Friday after four days closure, witnessed massive traffic jam at several places throughout the thoroughfare, the only surface link connecting Valley with the rest of the world. A number of people called this office, alleging that they were struck for hours especially in road stretch in Udhampur and Ramban district.   They said that there were no traffic personnel manning the highway, leading to the gridlocks at several places along the thoroughfare. Authorities allowed one-way traffic on the 300-kilometre highway from Jammu to Srinagar on Friday, four days after it remained shut due to fresh snowfall on Monday and continuous landslides, especailly in Ramban district.
