Jammu: Five soldiers, one civilian and four militants have been killed as of now in the attack on the Sunjwan Army camp here on Saturday. The operation entered its second day on Sunday and is underway with the Army taking all forms of precautions in the area surrounding the building.
Army chief General Bipin Rawat, who had visited the spot to discuss the situation with army commandos, returned to New Delhi on Sunday morning after conducting an aerial survey of the military station.
In the wee hours on Saturday morning, three to four heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammad militants entered the junior commissioner officer (JCO) family quarters located at the rear side of the army camp. A JCO was among the dead and nine others, including five women and children, were injured.
The attack comes amid an alert across the state of a possible strike by the terror outfit, in view of the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on February 9 and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front founder Maqbool Bhat on February 11.
Meanwhile, authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of Kashmir Valley particularly in Srinagar and Kupwara to prevent protests called by the joint resistance leadership (JRL) to mark the 34th death anniversary of Maqbool Bhat, the founder of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation.
