Jammu: The government was taking all necessary measures to promote and develop local languages, Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said on Thursday.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by MLC Vibod Gupta in the Upper House, Bukhari said that in pursuance of Section-146 of the Constitution of Jammu & Kashmir, the Academy of Art Cultural and Languages (JKAACL) has to promote and develop Urdu and Hindi languages, besides regional languages, Kashmiri, Dogri, Punjabi, Pahari, Balti, Dardi, Ladakhi and Gojri mentioned in the 6th Schedule.
“Since Sanskrit is not mentioned in the relevant Schedule, no separate initiative is being taken in this behalf,” he added.
The Minister said that in School Education Department, the subject has been introduced at +2 level in 49 Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSSs) in the State for which proportionate number of posts of +2 Lecturers have been created to impart education to the interested students.
