Srinagar: The opposition members on Friday staged walk out from Legislative Assembly, over “power crisis” in Kashmir Valley.
The opposition started protests soon after Dy Chief Minister and PDD minister Nirmal Singh accused the opposition parties of playing politics over it and denied any “power crisis” in the state.
The members of National Conference including Aga Syed Rahulla, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Abdul Majeed Larmi and Altaf Kaloo shouted slogans against PDP- BJP government, accusing it of completely failing to provide the electricity especially in harsh winter.
They said the entire Kashmir Division was reeling under darkness and government’s claim proved hoax. They were demanding statement from the government over the issue.
Nirmal Singh stood up and said that the government is providing electricity to the people of Kashmir region beyond the capacity.
While rejecting there was “power crisis” in the valley, Dy CM said the PDD department was providing the electricity to the region as per schedule.
“As compared to previous year, 50 megawatt extra is being given to the Kashmir”, he said, adding opposition members are doing politics over it.
Unsatisfied with the reply, the opposition members staged walk out amid slogans ‘PDP-BJP sarkar mai andhera hi andehra hai.’
The Jammu and Kashmir government said that Power Development Department (PDD) has supplied 1,200 MW electricity despite its total consumer load agreement of 700 MW only.
“In Kashmir Valley, the department has been supplying power to the tune of 1,200 MW (megawatt) during peak hours whereas it is duty bound to provide only 700 MW power as per the total consumer load agreements,” Deputy CM, who holds the charge of Power Ministry, informed the Legislative Assembly.
