Srinagar: The government has no intention to abolish levy and collection of toll tax under Levy of Toll Tax Act 1995 in the light of implementation of GST regime in the State.
Responding to a question in the state legislative assembly, the government said the toll tax has not been subsumed in GST and the Government was competent to levy Toll under J&K levy of Toll Act, Samvat 1995 as per taxation powers derived from Section 5 of Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. “As such, charge of toll is not violation of Goods and Services Tax norms. Nowhere in the country has toll been abolished as yet,” said Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu.
