Condolence meeting held to mourn demise of Al-Haj Nazir Ahmad Zargar; INS management express sympathy

Srinagar, Dec 15: In a first initiative of its kind, the University of Kashmir has started colloquium lectures to enable students, scholars and teachers to share their ideas on a common platform.

The first colloquium lecture was delivered by the vice-chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, also an eminent professor of Biotechnology, who spoke on his research “mTOR pathway hoodwinked to overtake cell growth and proliferation.”

In his power-point presentation, Prof Andrabi spoke at length on the topic following which a question-answer session was held.

Prof Andrabi said that the colloquium lecture initiative shall transcend branches of learning and enable students, research scholars and teachers to share their ideas and/or research findings with the broader audience in a simplified manner.

“It will be an open platform where our own students, scholars and teachers (or even those from other academic institutions) can discuss their ideas and thoughts without any inhibitions,” he said, and asked the Dean, Research, Prof Zaffar A Reshi, to chalk out a time-table for colloquium lectures, as is the case with several international universities.

Prof Reshi, who organised the lecture, underscored that there was a pressing need of such a platform where people, irrespective of the disciplines of study they belong to, can share their ideas and, may be, improve upon them.

“It’s an idea that eventually develops into a plan for research or an academic study. The colloquium lectures would help our students, scholars and teachers to build up further on their studies/research findings/academic problems etc. for better outcomes,” he said.

Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof Musadiq Amin Sahaf; Dean, School of Applied Sciences and Technology, Prof Farooq A Masoodi and other senior teachers and officers of the University were present on the occasion.
