Srinagar: A local court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to a convict for murdering by stabbing a private school teacher in 2008 here.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, Rashid Ali Dar passed the order of sentence after hearing arguments and submissions of the counsel for the prosecution as well as the convict. Prosecution was represented before the court by Special Public Prosecutor Abdul Aziz Teeli.
On Monday, the court held Irfan Bhat of Fateh Kadal in Downtown guilty for offences of 302 RPC (Murder) and 341 (wrongful restraint).”
Police investigation revealed that on the fateful day on 8 July, 2008, the deceased, a private school teacher was on way to school to perform her duties. “(Irfan) stopped (the teacher) and stabled her with sharp edged weapon with intention to kill her outside her home at Hyderpora. (He) had also tried to slit her throat. The deceased was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries,” police said.
