Leh coldest at minus 5.9 in JK: MeT

Srinagar: Leh town in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir was the coldest on Thursday where the night temperature dropped to minus 5.9 degrees Celsius, a Met official said.

While the minimum in neighbouring Kargil was minus 5.2 degrees.

In Srinagar city the minimum temperature was 1.1 while it was 0.7 in Pahalgam and minus 4.5 in Gulmarg.

Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 11.2, Banihal 1.7, Katra 10 while Batote and Bhaderwah towns both recorded 3.6 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperature.

Higher reaches had received snow on Wednesday that forced the closure of many mountain passes, including the Zojilla that connects the Valley with the Ladakh region.
