Srinagar, Sep 28: At least five persons are feared dead and five others injured after a Sumo vehicle plunged into a deep gorge and fell into the Kishanganga river at Semari in Karnah area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, officials said.
Reports said that five persons have died in the accident, however the casualty count may rise.
Among the victims are Mohd Idrees, son of Kaser Din, 32, and his 9-month-old daughter Hamza.
The injured have been shifted to GMC Srinagar for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, neither the police nor the district administration has confirmed the Karnah accident so far.
Three ambulances are currently in service at the spot, while additional ambulances have been despatched to assist in the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Kupwara district.
In a post on X, the LG said, “Deeply pained by the loss of lives in an unfortunate road accident in Kupwara. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured. I have directed the District Administration to ensure best possible treatment to the injured.”
