J&K to witness rain, thundershowers from July 30 to Aug 7; Heavy showers likely in Jammu

Srinagar, July 30: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast spells of rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the next week, with a possibility of heavy to torrential rain in parts of Jammu division.

An official of MeT said that July 30-31 would likely to see one or two spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers at most places during afternoon, evening and early morning hours. The Met office has warned of brief intense heavy showers and torrential rain at a few places in Jammu division during this period.

On August 1, a spell of light rain or brief thundershower is expected at scattered places, with the possibility of brief intense showers.

From August 2-4 may bring a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, mainly in the afternoon, evening and early morning hours. Heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers are again likely over a few districts of Jammu division.

From August 5-7, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are possible at scattered places with brief intense showers.

The MeT department has issued an advisory warning of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers at a few districts of Jammu division on July 30, 31 and August 2 and 3.

It said torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may trigger flash floods and landslides at vulnerable places.

People have been advised to remain alert and avoid travel to hilly and low-lying areas prone to waterlogging during the wet spell.
