The initiative was undertaken following a request by Chering Dorjay Lakrook, President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), and aimed at improving access to basic lighting facilities in the remote mountainous region.

The event was attended by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Fire and Fury Corps, along with local residents and community representatives. More than 300 beneficiaries participated in the programme and expressed gratitude to the Indian Army for its continued support and outreach efforts in remote areas of Ladakh.

Speaking on the occasion, Lakrook thanked the Indian Army for its commitment towards the welfare and development of the region. He appreciated the efforts being made to improve the living conditions of people residing in difficult terrain and inaccessible areas.

The solar lighting project is expected to benefit households by providing clean and reliable energy while also enhancing safety and mobility during night hours through the installation of solar street lights.

Officials said the initiative reflects the Army’s continued efforts to strengthen its connect with local communities and contribute towards development in border areas.

Under Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army has been undertaking various welfare and community support programmes across Ladakh and other remote regions, focusing on education, healthcare, infrastructure and livelihood support.
