Srinagar, May 8: Commemorating World Press Freedom Day, Green Valley Educational Institute’s mass media department today organised first-of-its-kind school-level programme, promoting ethical and responsible journalism.

Through engaging presentations and performances, the event highlighted the growing importance of media literacy among young learners. The programme featured speeches, a mime act, a mock newsroom, a live news bulletin and a tribute to slain journalists.

The programme was attended by noted Kashmiri journalists Hakeem Irfan Rashid and Peerzada Ashiq, who appreciated G.V.E.I. for pioneering media studies at the +2 level.

Interacting with the participants, Ashiq said he felt “relieved that the future of journalism is safe” after witnessing the understanding displayed by the students of G.V.E.I.

Echoing similar views, Rashid said there remains “hope in journalism” and encouraged students to pursue the field while upholding integrity and ethical values.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohd Asif, coordinator, Mass Media Studies, G.V.E.I, stressed the importance of introducing media studies at the senior secondary level across the Valley. Emphasising the growing relevance of media literacy, he added, “informed and media-aware students are essential for building a conscious society in the long run.”
