Srinagar, May 01: On the occasion of International Labour Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) extended heartfelt greetings to the entire workforce whose hard work, skill, and dedication form the backbone of the society and economy.

Chairman JKCSF, Abdul Qayoom Wani, while greeting the labour community, stated that this day is a tribute to the dignity of labour and the invaluable contributions of workers across all sectors — from agriculture and industry to education, healthcare, and services. Their perseverance and commitment continue to drive progress and sustain our communities.

He, however, expressed grave concern over the persistent injustice faced by private sector employees and labourers, who are being deprived of their rightful benefits under the Minimum Wages framework. He highlighted that lakhs of highly qualified youth, technicians, skilled, unskilled, and unorganised labourers remain the worst affected, struggling for fair compensation and job security.

Wani urged for immediate and effective measures to ensure protection of labour rights, stressing that the non-functional or ineffective role of the Labour Department has further aggravated the plight of workers, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and neglect.

Reaffirming JKCSF’s commitment, Abdul Qayoom Wani emphasized the need for ensuring fair wages, secure working conditions, social protection, and opportunities for skill development for all sections of the workforce.

On this significant day, he called upon all stakeholders to build a just and equitable society where every worker is respected, protected, and empowered, and where the dignity of labour is upheld in letter and spirit.
