SSP Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy chaired a high-level crime review meeting at PCR Kashmir, directing officers to improve investigation standards, raise conviction rates, and intensify action against drug trafficking and organized crime across the district.

The meeting was attended by all Zonal SPs, SP Headquarters, DySP Headquarters, SDPOs, DySP DAR, SHOs, Incharge Police Posts, and officers from the District Police Office.

During the meeting, the overall crime situation in Srinagar was reviewed in detail. Discussions focused on strengthening investigations and prosecution in cases registered under the UAPA, NDPS Act, and other criminal categories to improve conviction rates.

Performance reviews were conducted for all police zones, sub-divisions, and police stations. Key issues discussed included general crime, POCSO cases, crimes against women, murder cases, theft and burglary, absconders, proclaimed offenders, grievance redressal, preventive policing, organized crime, and implementation of Nyaya Sakshya.

SSP Srinagar stressed the need for speedy disposal of pending and backlog cases and directed officers to ensure professional handling of sensitive UAPA and NDPS cases. He also instructed officers to identify illegal assets, attach properties, and freeze bank accounts linked to criminal proceeds.

Special focus was laid on dismantling drug trafficking networks and hotspot areas in a systematic manner. Investigating officers were asked to trace both forward and backward linkages in narcotics and terror-related cases and strengthen financial investigations.

The meeting also reviewed the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, launched on April 9, 2026, for three months. Officers were directed to work closely with the district administration, community leaders, and Imams to create awareness against drug abuse.

Strict action was also ordered against drug peddlers, including cancellation of passports, Aadhaar cards, driving licences, and other official documents as per law.

Expressing concern over acquittals and discharges in some UAPA and NDPS cases, SSP Srinagar directed officers to remove investigative shortcomings and ensure accountability. He warned that progress would be reviewed in future meetings and strict action would be taken against officers failing to meet targets.

The meeting concluded with directions to all officers to work with renewed commitment and coordination to ensure effective crime control and a safer Srinagar. (KNC)
