In a signed article, the Prime Minister said Phule is remembered for the institutions he established and the transformative movements he spearheaded, which laid the foundation for a more just and equitable society.

Marking the beginning of his bicentenary year, Modi said the most meaningful tribute to Phule lies in renewing commitment towards education, strengthening sensitivity against injustice and reinforcing the belief that society can reform itself from within.

He said Phule’s life continues to inspire millions, highlighting that his vision of empowering communities through education, equality and social awareness remains relevant even today.

The Prime Minister noted that Phule played a key role in promoting education as a tool for justice and equality, particularly by opening schools for girls and the underprivileged at a time when access to education was limited.

Highlighting his broader contributions, Modi said Phule worked extensively for the upliftment of farmers, workers and marginalised sections, while also striving to maintain social harmony.

He also recalled the role of Savitribai Phule, terming her a pioneering figure in women’s education who carried forward Phule’s mission with dedication and sacrifice.
