Kulgam, Apr 10: In a major offensive against narcotics, Kulgam Police arrested five drug peddlers in multiple operations, including two involved in backward linkages, while also sealing a medical shop for violating mandatory norms related to the sale of Schedule H medicines.

As per a statement, during naka checking at Furrah New Bypass, a police party from Police Post Mir Bazar apprehended a suspicious person coming from Alstop towards Furrah who attempted to flee on noticing the police party. Upon personal search, 110 grams of charas powder-like substance, 2 grams of heroin-like substance, and cash amounting to ₹22,000 were recovered.

The accused was identified as Danish Khurshid S/O Khurshid Ahmad Nath R/O Redwani, Qoimoh Kulgam. Accordingly, FIR No. 65/2026 U/S 8/20, 21 NDPS Act registered at P/S Qazigund and investigation set into motion.

In another action on 08-04-2026, a police party from Police Post Mir Bazar during naka checking at Akhran apprehended a suspicious individual who attempted to flee. During search, 63.31 grams of charas powder-like substance and 2.03 grams of heroin-like substance were recovered from his possession.

The accused was identified as Faruk Ali S/O Sukur Ali R/O Jiggi No. 256, Block C, JJ Colony Bawana, North-West Delhi. Accordingly, FIR No. 70/2026 U/S 8/20, 21 NDPS Act registered at P/S Qazigund.

In a separate case, acting on credible prior information, a police party from Police Station Qazigund laid a naka at Kurigam Railway Bridge where one accused person was intercepted while proceeding towards Qazigund.

During his personal search, 109 grams of charas concealed in corn husk was recovered. The accused was identified as Abdul Qayoom Shah S/O Mohd Subhan Shah R/O Shastargam, Dooru Anantnag. Accordingly, FIR No. 71/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act registered at P/S Qazigund.

During further investigation of FIR No. 71/2026, backward linkages were established. After obtaining the necessary warrant, police conducted searches in Sirhama, Anantnag, leading to the identification and involvement of Mohd Iqbal Rather S/O Sanullah Rather R/O Sirhama Camp Colony, Anantnag and Mukhtar Ahmad Wagay S/O Mohd Sultan Wagay R/O Wopzan, Hearpora, Anantnag. During the search, 1.212 Kgs of charas was recovered and seized, thereby exposing the supply chain involved in the narcotics network.

In a separate action, an extensive joint drive was conducted by Police Station Qaimoh in coordination with the Drug Department to check the sale of drugs, with particular focus on Schedule H medicines, by medical shops in the Qaimoh area.

During the inspection, several medical shops were found violating prescribed norms, especially regarding maintenance of mandatory records and regulatory compliance.

Accordingly, multiple establishments have been recommended for suspension of their licenses. Additionally, RH Medical Store was sealed on the spot for violating mandatory requirements for sale of Schedule H medicines, including failure to maintain proper records as per norms.

SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), while reiterating strict action against drug peddlers, stated that Kulgam Police is committed to dismantling drug networks and will continue to take firm action against those involved in narcotics trade.

He also urged the youth to stay away from drugs and appealed to the public to share information to help eradicate this menace from society.
