The marathon was flagged off by CM Omar Abdullah, from Maulana Azad Stadium and witnessed enthusiastic participation from athletes, fitness enthusiasts and locals from different parts of the Union Territory.

Actor Milind Soman and actor Gul Panag also participated in the event, adding to its appeal and encouraging wider public involvement.

The event was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department as part of efforts to position Jammu as a destination for major sporting events and outdoor activities.

Participants, including international runners, appreciated the initiative. A runner from Kenya said, “The race was nice, but the weather was a challenge. It is the first edition and a good start. Organisers can improve it further next time.”

Many locals termed the marathon a positive initiative, saying such events not only promote fitness but also bring the community together and boost tourism prospects.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Satish Sharma said that the government is committed to strengthening sports infrastructure in Jammu, adding that more large-scale sporting events will be organised in the coming years.
