Srinagar, Jan 06: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday said it has trapped and arrested a Patwari from Udhampur district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs: 5,000 from a complainant in exchange for processing a Virasati Intkal (inheritance mutation) and providing its copy.

According to a statement, Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau, registered a case against public servant, namely, Pardhan Singh, Patwari, Patwar Halqa, Laddha Tehsil Moungri, District Udhampur and concerned Girdawar for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from the complainant.

The statement reads, the said accused public servant demanded the bribe amounting to rupees 10000 from the complainant for ‘Virasiti Intkal’ and providing ‘nakal’ thereof. Since, the complainant did not want to pay bribe and approached Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law.

“On receipt of the compliant, a discreet verification was conducted, which corroborated the demand of bribe by the public servant concerned and accordingly, a case FIR No. 01/2026 U/S 07 of Prevention of Corruption, Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) BNS, 2023 was registered at PS ACB Udhampur and investigation was taken-up,” it reads.

“During the course of investigation, a trap team headed by Dy. SP Rank Officer was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount ₹5000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses,” the statement reads.

It further reads, the accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Moreover, search was also conducted in the rented accommodation of the accused Patwari, situated at Sailan Talab Udhampur and Basnote Tehsil Moungri District Udhampur respectively, in presence of Magistrate. Further investigation of the instant case is going on.
