GMC Sgr condoles demise of Prof Hamid Ali Durrani

Srinagar, Dec 20: Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar on Saturday expressed profound grief over the passing away of Prof. Dr. Hamid Ali Durrani, former Professor of Medicine and one of the foremost pioneers of Gastroenterology in Jammu and Kashmir, whose contribution to medical education and patient care remains unparalleled.

In her condolence message, Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan, Principal/Dean, Govt Medical College Srinagar stated that Prof. Durrani was a towering figure and his passing away has created an irreparable void in the medical fraternity, however ,his unwavering dedication to medicine, commitment to academic excellence, and exceptional mentorship will continue to inspire generations of medical professionals .

Prof. Dr. Hamid Ali Durrani began his illustrious career as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at GMC Srinagar in the late 1960s. Through his academic brilliance and clinical acumen, he rose to become Professor of Medicine and Head of the Gastroenterology Division .He was among the pioneers of Gastroenterology in J&K laying the foundation for the specialty and shaping its growth in the region.

An alumnus of King George’s Medical College, Lucknow, Prof. Durrani was known not only for his vast medical expertise but also for his integrity, altruism, discipline, and deep sense of responsibility. He mentored and guided scores of medical professionals, many of whom are today serving with distinction across the globe.

Faculty,administrative ,nursing and paramedical staff of GMC Srinagar stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this moment of profound grief and prays for eternal peace to the departed soul and also strength and fortitude for the family to bear this irreparable loss.
