Div Com seeks public cooperation as Sgr faces persistent traffic congestion

Srinagar, Nov 20: Srinagar continues to witness significant traffic congestion, causing daily inconvenience to commuters across the city, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Thursday said.

He said the authorities are implementing measures to ease congestion, public cooperation remains critical.

Speaking to media on the sidelines of the “Know Your Artisan” programme organized by the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, the Div Com Garg said traffic congestion in Srinagar remains a dynamic challenge, with multiple measures being implemented, several of which are already underway.

He added that in a recent meeting, the Srinagar Road Transport Authority (RTA) declared certain areas as ‘No E-Rickshaw’ zones to reduce congestion on major city roads.

“In addition, under the Smart City initiative, city parking infrastructure has been strengthened, including the development of multi-level parking facilities to further ease traffic flow. Authorities emphasize the need for continued interventions in traffic management,” the Divisional Commissioner said, adding that RTA and Smart City officials have appealed to citizens to demonstrate civic responsibility and adhere to traffic rules.

Public cooperation, he stressed, is essential for the success of congestion-relief measures.
