Srinagar, Nov 16: A delegation along with several prominent members from Qazigund and nearby areas, called on Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Larvi on Sunday to express concerns regarding the proposed alignment of the Qazigund–Shopian bypass.

The meeting was held as per a pre-scheduled appointment at Kapran, Verinag.

The delegation submitted that the earlier proposed alignment placed the bypass away from the jurisdiction of Qazigund town, which would result in considerable hardship to residents and local traders.

They stressed that Qazigund has already faced economic setbacks due to a previous bypass project that diverted major vehicular traffic away from the town, affecting local businesses and livelihoods.

The delegation urged MP Mian Altaf Larvi to personally intervene in the matter and take it up with the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

They appealed that the upcoming bypass must be aligned through Qazigund town limits—from the Navyug Tunnel to any point within Qazigund jurisdiction to ensure the town’s sustainable development and continued accessibility.

Larvi gave a patient hearing to the issues raised, discussed the matter in detail, and assured the delegation that he would pursue the matter with utmost priority with the concerned ministry.
