In a written reply, the Health Minister said that to curb the import and sale of substandard, rotten, or illegal meat consignments, the department listed several measures.

“It has conducted 1,430 inspections of food business operators dealing with meat and meat products since July 2025. Public notices were also issued to those handling frozen raw meat in August 2025, warning them to follow food safety norms,” the minister said.

She further said that the department has also issued prohibition order, restricting manufacture, storage, transportation and sale of frozen or chilled meat not conforming to FSSAI standards.

“Special inspection and sampling drives have been launched across the Union Territory to ensure compliance. 102 improvement notices were issued, and 14 licenses of defaulting operators were suspended for violating the Food Safety and Standards Act,” she said.

The Minister said that the department is also running public awareness campaigns to promote the sale and consumption of hygienic and wholesome meat in Jammu and Kashmir.
