According to police officials, the case came to light after Police Station Nowhatta received a written complaint from Mohammad Yousuf Rather, son of Abdul Gaffar Rather, a resident of Wantpora, Rajouri Kadal. In his complaint, Rather stated that some unknown persons had broken into his house during his absence, ransacked the premises, and decamped with gold items valued in lakhs of rupees.

Taking cognizance, Police registered a case under FIR No. 51/2025 in Nowhatta Police Station under sections 305 and 331 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.

To fast-track the probe, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the Station House Officer (SHO) Nowhatta was constituted. The team made use of both technical evidence and human intelligence, which led to the identification of several suspects.

During sustained investigation, police zeroed in on one suspect identified as Waseem Ahmad Kaloo, son of Ghulam Qadir Kaloo, a resident of Chattabal. Officials said that during questioning, Kaloo admitted his involvement in the burglary. Following his disclosure, stolen gold items worth about ₹12 lakh were successfully recovered.

The accused has since been arrested and remains in custody. Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine if more individuals were involved in the crime and to recover any remaining stolen property.

Srinagar Police reiterated their commitment to combating social crimes and ensuring public safety. “Such cases will be pursued to their logical conclusion. Our teams remain vigilant and committed to maintaining law and order,” the statement read.
