A senior official in the J&K Assembly said that the fire started around 9 AM and rapidly spread through the lobby area. Preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit as the likely cause of the blaze.

The flames engulfed several historic portraits of former Governors and Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir, along with furniture including sofas, chairs, and carpets, official said.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the scene and managed to contain the fire before it could spread to other sections of the complex. While no casualties or injuries were reported, official added. (JKNS)
