Srinagar, Mar 22: A massive fire broke out in the Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar on Saturday morning, reducing multiple residential houses to ashes and causing panic among residents. According to an official, the fire was reported in the early morning, and before emergency teams could arrive, the flames had already consumed several residential structures. “As soon as we received the distress call, fire tenders were dispatched to the area. However, by the time they arrived, around five houses were already in flames, and the fire was spreading,” the official stated. The exact number of houses damaged is currently being assessed.

A coordinated effort by the Fire and Emergency Services, police, and locals played a crucial role in preventing further destruction.

Police have registered a case to ascertain the cause of the fire. [KNT]
