Sgr records coldest night of season at -2.0°C

Srinagar, Dec 19: Srinagar recorded its coldest night of the season, with temperatures plunging to -6.0°C as the cold wave tightened its grip across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

According to JKNS, in Kashmir, Shopian experienced the lowest temperature, freezing at -10.2°C, followed by Anantnag at -9.0°C and Pulwama at -8.4°C. Other areas also faced severe cold, with Larnoo at -8.3°C, Qazigund and Khudwani at -7.0°C each, and Sonamarg at -7.1°C. Pahalgam registered -6.8°C, Kupwara -6.2°C, and Ganderbal -6.1°C, while Kulgam and Bandipora reported -6.6°C and -6.5°C, respectively. Kokernag stood at -5.3°C, and Baramulla at -5.7°C.

In the Jammu region, Banihal recorded -1.9°C, while Udhampur touched 0.1°C. Other districts such as Poonch and Samba reported 1.1°C, with Reasi at 1.4°C and Jammu city at 5.1°C.

Meanwhile, Ladakh witnessed the harshest conditions, with Kargil freezing at -13.5°C and Leh at -11.2°C.

In the meantime, the biting cold has disrupted daily life, with frost-covered roads and icy conditions affecting movement. Meteorologists expect the cold wave to persist in the coming days, urging residents to take precautions.
