6 of a family die, 4 injured in Kathua blaze

Jammu, Dec 18: At least six members of a family including four minors died in a massive blaze that broke out in a residential house in Kathua district, officials said on Wednesday.

They told GNS that the fire broke out during intervening night in the residential house of one Avtar Krishan son of Keshav Raina in Ward number 16 at Shiva Nagar Kathua. Six members of the family died while four people were injured and shifted to district hospital.

The deceased persons have been identified as Ganga Bhagat, 17, daughter of Bharat Bushan, her brother Danish Bhagat, 15, Avatar Krishan, his daughter Barkha Raina, 25, Takash Raina, 3, and Advik Raina, 4, son of Sandeep Kaul. The injured persons have been identified as Swarna, 61, wife of Avatar Krishan, Neetu Davi, 40, wife of Bharat Bushan, Arun Kumar, 15, son of S Chand of Ramban and Kewal Krishan son of Mansa Ram of Shiva Nagar Kathua.

All the injured are undergoing treatment in GMC Kathua, a police official told GNS. He said preliminary investigation suggested short circuit to be cause of the fire but further inquiry is underway.
