Drug trafficking network busted in Sgr, Property attached: Police

Srinagar, Dec 16: Police on Monday claimed to have busted drug trafficking network and attach property earned via Illegal narcotics trade in Qamarwari area of Srinagar district.

In a statement, the police said that continuing its stringent crackdown on drug trafficking, Srinagar Police has arrested two drug peddlers involved in the trafficking of drugs and narcotic substances and recovered substantial quantities of contraband substances from their possession.

The spokesman further stated that a team of PS Parimpora during naka checking at Barthana Bund, intercepted an Alto vehicle bearing registration number JK01J 7081 with the accused persons on board, who have been identified as Asif Ahmad Sheikh son of Ab Razaq Sheikh and Arif Ahmad Sheikh son of Lateef Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Babapora Barthana.

During search, substantial quantity of contraband substances was recovered from their possession.
Upon this, Case FIR No. 136/2024 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered in PS Parimpora.
Both the accused persons have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized, he said.

The two accused persons are hard-core drug peddlers engaged in large-scale narcotic trafficking among the youth. Notably, one of the accused persons namely Arif Ahmad Sheikh, has been previously involved in another case FIR No. 34/2023 under sections 8/20, 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act of PS Parimpora, he said.

During the course of investigation, it came to fore that the accused person namely Asif Ahmad Sheikh had constructed a double-storeyed house at Babapora Barthana from the proceeds of illegal narcotics trade, he said.

The said property has been seized under the provisions of section 68 of the NDPS Act, with intimation to the competent authority for further legal action, he said.
