Srinagar, Nov 21: With the government taking a pledge to eliminate corruption from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities here have registered over 260 cases against the officials and officers for their involvement in different corrupt practices.
According to the details available, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has recorded 267 cases since January 01 2022 till October 2024.
The registration of cases starting taking pace after the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led administration to ensure the corruption is eliminated from the soil of J&K.
With zero-tolerence against corruption, the Lieutenant Governor led administration a couple of years geared up and started working on achieving the target of corruption-free J&K.
In the last three years, the highest number of 85 cases has been registered at ACB Police Station Srinagar.
With the government tightening noose, the data has indicated that the cases are declining with each passing year in the last three years.
Compared to 128 cases in 2022, only 62 cases have been registered in the year 2023, the data reveals, but it indicates a bit increase in 2024 so far as 77 cases have been registered till the month of October in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the last three years, the cases being registered at ACB’s Srinagar Police Station have gone down from 40 in 2022, 25 in 2023 to only 20 so far in 2024 till October month.
The cases that have been registered include demand and acceptance of bribes, abuse of official position, disproportionate assets, embezzlement, Tampering/ Manipulation of revenue records, misappropriation of funds, corruption charges and others.At Police Station Central, the cases have increased from seven in 2022 and only in 2023 to 19 in 2024 so far.
As per the data, 36 cases have been registered at Police Station ACB Jammu including 16 in 2022, only six in 2023 and 14 in 2024 till the month of October.However, only seven cases have been registered at PS Udhampur including 4 in 2022, 3 in 2023 and none in 2024. The number of cases declined from 11 in 2022 to two each in 2023 and 2024.
The data reads 12 cases have been registered at Police Station ACB Rajouri including two in 2022 and five each in 2023 and 2024 so far.The data indicates the decline in cases at ACB Police Station Anantnag where 19 cases were registered in 2022, which reduced to seven cases in 2023 and only five in 2024.
As per the data, 54 cases have been registered at ACB Police Station Baramulla in the last three years including 29 in 2022, 13 in 2023 and 12 in 2024.
