Srinagar, Oct 30: In a move to addresses a long-standing demand of residents in the Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced the restoration of the November-December academic session for students up to 9th standard.

This adjustment comes as a relief for parents and educators who have advocated for this schedule, seeing it as better suited to the region’s climatic and logistical needs.

Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed the decision, stating, “For now, we will restore the academic session back to November-December up to 9th standard. For students of 10th to 12th, the academic session will be restored from next year.”

This decision is seen as part of a phased approach to transition back to the traditional academic cycle after the adoption of a Uniform Academic Calendar in 2022, which shifted the start of the academic year to March.

Many in the Valley felt that the previous calendar disrupted students’ routines and affected exam preparedness due to winter’s impact on school attendance and access to resources.

The move has been widely welcomed by local communities and education stakeholders, who believe the change will help align school schedules with seasonal patterns and improve overall academic focus during the winter months. (KNS)
