Srinagar, Oct 18: The parliamentarian and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chief, Engineer Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Er Rashid on Friday accused the newly elected chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah of playing in the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also said that NC was aware about the abrogation of Article 370 much ahead of the decision was taken by the government and winning a majority of seats in the assembly polls was the outcome of BJP’s complete support to the party.
Addressing a news conference, Er Rashid, as per KNO, NC has got the tactical help during the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir in which the party has gained 42 seats.
He added that its seems that NC and BJP are playing the tactics behind the curtains, saying that it has come to the fore that Omar Abdullah while chairing a first cabinet meeting has passed a resolution seeking restoration of Statehood, but it is contrary to what NC has been claiming from day one and won the elections as well.
“NC has promising a fight against Article 370 and other related things, but the fact is Omar is deviating from the main issues by focusing on Statehood restoration only,” he said, adding that the Statehood has been promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, therefore stressing on this issue while ignoring the grave issues is tantamount to a betrayal.
He said Omar Abdullah has been following the suit of his grandfather, Sheikh Abdullah, who also has done betrayal with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Omar has been shifting his focus to Statehood only and even recently claimed that the restoration of Article 370 will be sought during minus BJP government at the center. I want to ask him whether Kashmiris should wait for 100 years if BJP remains in power till then,” he said, adding that Omar has been playing in the hands of BJP.
He added that Omar should have been in grief while assuming the charge as chief minister, but instead he was happy to such extent that he changed three dresses in a day to show happiness over assuming the ‘broken chair’.
Er Rashid also asked the Omar led government to come clear on what would be the capital for his government since the traditional practice of Darbar Move has ended in Jammu and Kashmir, which according to him has created a wedge between the people of two regions.
