Srinagar, Jun 24: A drug peddler was arrested in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district while 3.2 kg poppy straw was recovered from his possession, said police on Monday.

In a statement, police said that the Police Station Qazigund established a checkpoint at Shampora Crossing near National Highway. “During checking one vehicle (Alto Car-800) bearing registration number JK03L-5348 was intercepted for checking and after search, 3.2 Kgs of Poppy Straw and digital weighing machine were recovered.”

Police said that the accused identified as Bilal Ahmad Reshi son of Mohd Abdullah Reshi, a resident of Danew Nagnaran, Anantnag was arrested on spot. “Also, the vehicle used in commission of crime has been seized,” they added.

Accordingly, police said that a case vide FIR number 174/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been initiated, police added.
