Srinagar, May 03: The Intramural Activities began in the Department of Physical Education and Sports, KU. It’s a part of the curriculum for the M.P.Ed students. This leads to the development of qualities like leadership, sportsmanship, organization, etc., which helps them grow and serve the field better.
Dr. Mandeep Singh, Director, Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, extends a warm welcome to all students and faculty members for their unwavering dedication.
The participating students were from both batches of M.P.Ed 4th and 2nd Semester. Initially, four teams were formed, with only captains and vice-captains assigned. These team leaders later bought the rest of the players for their respective teams through an auction process. It was a new experience for all the participants.
The teams, captains and vice-captains are as follows:
Real Strikers – Captain: Muzamil, Vice Captain: Zaid
KU Hunters – Captain: Iqra, Vice Captain: Ibrahim
Olympian F16 – Captain: Rameez, Vice Captain: Hatim
Saffron Strikers – Captain: Nasir, Vice Captain: Suhail
In the auction process, each team was given a purse limit of a hundred points to form a team of full strength by buying players (students) from both semesters of M.P.Ed, including both boys and girls.
The entire process was conducted in the presence of the Dr. Mandeep Singh, Director, Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, University of Kashmir and Intramural Incharge Dr. Surjeet Singh. Other faculty members, including Dr. Nasir, Dr. Iftikar, and Dr. Kabir including Dr. Harbinder Singh, Hockey Coach and Mirza Irshad Hussain Beig, Section Officer, DPE&S were also present.
The completion of the auction process allowed all teams to add the required number of players to their respective teams using their purse limit of a hundred points. Three games were selected: cricket, volleyball, and football. Volleyball was chosen to kick off the intramural activities.
Fixtures were drawn, and matches were scheduled. The responsibility of organizing the first event was given to one of the teams, Real Strikers.
The first match was scheduled to begin at 11 AM between KU Hunters and Saffron Strikers, followed by the second match at 12:30 PM between Team Real Strikers and Olympian F16.
Under the able leadership of Dr. Mandeep Singh, Director, Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students. The occasion provided a platform for showcasing talent, promoting physical fitness, and reinforcing the importance of teamwork. Both matches were conducted successfully with their guidance and full support.
Match summaries:
In the first match, Team KU Hunters won against Saffron Strikers by 2-1 sets and qualified for the final.
In the second match, Real Strikers won against Olympian F16 by 2-0 sets and secured their spot in the final against KU Hunters, scheduled for the next day of the intramural, May 10, 2024.
At the end of the first day of intramural activities, the students thanked their respected Director, Dr. Mandeep Nathyal and Dr. Surjeet Singh Bali for providing them the opportunity to learn and excel.
